  When I got home I called customer service, spent a few minutes listening to nauseating music, and eventually got a real person (in India) on the phone. After establishing what a money order actually is (aka: "guaranteed cash"), they contacted the branch and then came back and told me "there is a $5 fee". ?!?!....

  I went there with an RBC money order that I got from my mother for my birthday. They refused to cash it as I did not have an account with them. The teller even told me it was "guaranteed cash". Which begs the question: if it's guaranteed cash, why won't RBC cash it for me? It's got their bank name and logo on it. It's obviously authentic. Yet they refused to honour it. I even had my ID in hand, anticipating being asked to present it.

  Let that sink in for a while before deciding whether RBC deserves your business anymore. Because service this bad starts from the top and trickles down.
